Before Starting

Take care of following tasks before you proceed with flashing custom ROM:
Task 1: Install USB drivers for your device on your PC.
Task 2: Be sure to backup your data including Contacts, SMS / MMS, APN & MMS Settings as well as photos and videos stored on your device’s internal or external storage.
Task 3: Make sure that your device is well charged. Ideally, the battery level should be around 60-80%. The more the better.
Task 4: USB Debugging should be enabled on your device.
Important: Most of the custom ROM will not have Google Apps in them. So, you will have to download and install GApps manually. Also take nandroid backup before installing

Done with preliminary precautionary steps? So, here’s the guide:

TWRP recovery let’s you do a number of cool stuff but the whole point of having a custom recovery is to be able to flash unsigned .zip files. These .zip files could be anything from a custom kernel, boot, recovery, MODs or full custom ROMs.

Let’s see how to flash a lineage os rom on Vibe K5 Plus using TWRP recovery.

How to Install a Lineage os ROM using TWRP Recovery

  1. Download and transfer the Lineage os ROM and Gapps for linage os you wish to flash to your device’s storage.
  2. Boot your device into TWRP recovery.
  3. Select “Wipe” from TWRP main menu and do a “Swipe to Factory Reset” on the bottom of screen.
└ Note: This will factory reset your device. If your custom ROM doesn’t require a factory reset, then simply skip this step.
  4. Go back to TWRP main menu, tap on “Install” and select the Lineage os  ROM .zip file and gapps for lineage os that you transferred to your device in Step 1.
  5. After selecting the .zip file, do “Swipe to Confirm Flash” on the bottom of screen to begin the custom ROM installation process. This may take some time.
  6. Once your ROM is successfully flashed, you’ll see “Wipe cache/dalvik” option, select it and then do “Swipe to wipe” on bottom of screen.
  7. Once cache & dalvik wipe completes, hit the “Back” button on-screen and then select “Reboot System” button.

  4. Hello, i followed all the steps, but the phone refuses to boot now.
Normally (factory state), when you press the vol+/power to go to recovery menu, some kind of Lenovo menu appears. There are several buttons (MMItest,PCBA test, HW info,...) and one of them is "recovery".
After i flashed the TWRP thru adb, everyting was fine, Lenovo menu appeared, after pressing the recovery button it went to TWRP.

Then i made the factory reset, flashed the Lineagerom zip and gapps zip.
After the reboot, phone shows Lenovo logo, than goes black screen (or maybe power off).
If i press vol+/power to go to recovery menu, nothing happens.
    What am i doing wrong?

I was able to boot into recovery again thru adb and restore the original rom from backup and tried all the steps again but the result is still the same.
    Thanks for your help.

  5. Hello Kra B, if you already did everything on the phone through the bootloader. To start in recovery mode with the phone off, if you have already installed the twpr, press volume + -, and the power button at the same time until it starts, and you should start in twpr

    1. Sure, but as I wrote, after i flashed the Lineage ROM in TWRP i am not able to boot anymore. So when i press the vol+/power the phone is stucked on Lenovo logo only.
It seems to me that some Lenovo boot part (that with the HWinfo, tests and recovery button) has been overwritten by the Lineage ROM.

  7. This is what i did. The steps are the same as on this page. The only difference is that i used older version of TWRP (3.0.2.r1), so there might be incompatibility with the Lineage android 7.1. I will try to flash the newest 3.1 version of TWRP and install again.

  8. I confirm the problems were caused by older version of TWRP. I flashed 3.1 version and latest build of Lineage and it boots OK after restart. Just the Lenovo boot menu is not accesible, when you press vol+/power, nothing happens. To get to recovery menu you have to press vol+/vol-/power.

  9. Does anyone have troubles with dual sim on k5 plus too? Phone changes assigned SIM functions (call/sms/data) after reboot or airplane mode.
